How Can Premature Ventricular Contractions Be Treated?
Dear Doctor: Today, I learned that I have premature ventricular contractions. If I can avoid it, I d like to not take the medication that my Doctor prescribed...Diltiazem. I ve had heart palpitations for a full year, and they ve increased. I experience them most of the day and throughout the night. They ve been worrisome but I ve gotten used to them. Do I need medication? Or can I control this with life style changes? Should I change my life style before I try the medication? I m also taking 20mg Celexia (sp) each day. Thank you, Sharon
Hello Sharon. I have read through your question and would like to tell you that premature ventricular contractions occur due to defect in electrical conduction of the heart. It cannot be controlled with lifestyle modifications. Diltiazem will help in the normal functioning of the heart. If you are not experiencing any side effects of diltiazem I would advise you to continue it. If you have any side effects pls consult your physician for an alternative drug . I hope that answers your question. If you have any other questions please feel free to write.
