How Can Puss Filled Blisters Be Treated?

I have several blisters on my body that have puss in them and when I pop them they bleed for several days. I treat them with cleaning and Neosporin with a bandage. It takes several days before they dry up. When they finally do, if they do, some turn black, some look bruised. I'm 58, rarely get in the sun. But I did spend this past summer in the sun in CA. I also have a note under my arm. looks like a gray lump.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

I would keep a possibility of bacterial infection of the skin(Impetigo). The swelling/lump underarm must be a draining lymph node from the site of infection

If i were your treating doctor i would have advised you to take a week of oral antibiotics(penicillin group).

Topical antibacterial ointment like 2% mupirocin twice daily will help in addition.

I would have also liked to know your blood sugar status specially since you have got a lot of lesions over several days and diabetes seems to predispose to such extensive and slow healing infections

take care
regards

Hi,

I can understand your concern for several blisters on your body that have pus.

It appears form your query that you have recurrent folliculitis with inflammation at the affected region. You have not mentioned whether you have gone for your blood sugar level to check that you have diabetes or not.

You go for blood sugar to rule out diabetes. Additionally go for culture and sensitivity of the pus so that exact course of antibiotic can be given to you.
Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.

For time being period you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.

Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments, take two times bath and stay away form hot and humid climate.

Take care.
