How Can Rabies Be Prevented After Coming In Contact With Street Dogs?

Dear Doctor, I recently came into a situation which caused me to fear rabies. As I was walking pass a street at night with friends, 4 dogs approached us and as we were walking they barked. During this period we were scared, I felt a wet speck on my leg but wasn t sure if it was me sweating or spit from the bark. If it was spit it landed on my foot, which had no cut as that spot. After 50 minutes or so I came back to my room and put some 70% cleaning solution on it with a spray, and went for a shower. I had a cut from the morning on my finger, I am scared that while I was spraying the spot, it could ve sprayed back into my finger and while washing hands into my cut. I then used the same spray around 30 minutes on my finger with the cut. I am scared that the spray might have been contaminated as spray disperse and usually spray back after contact. Am I at risk for rabies?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You can't contact rabies unless you have a dog bite and blood oozes out or dog saliva comes in contact with a cut surface or open wound which is not the case here. Rabies cannot transmit in the way you have described, so you don't need to worry.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman,
