How Can Rectal Cancer Be Diagnosed?

what is the chance of having rectal cancer when I have had regular colonoscopy, regular anal exams and one just a couple months, anyway I thought I had a hemorrhoid on the outside of my rectum and went to a specialist in this area. In the morning I am having a biopsy at the hospital for a hard bump outside my rectum and have had some bleeding but not in stool I don t think. I am 65 do not smoke or drink. I walk about three miles 5 days a week and exercise three days a week. what questions should I ask before the biopsy?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Don't worry it may be a folliculitis or nodule etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

For colon cancer you may need colonoscopy, biopsy, molecular testing, blood tests, computer tomography, MRI, ultrasound, chest X-ray, positron emission tomography etc.

Your doctor may diagnose according which test fit for you.

Take high fiber diet and continue exercise regularly.

Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
