How Can Recurrent UTI While Suffering From Diabetes Be Treated?

I am an insulin dependent diabetic I also have been fighting constant urinary tract infections forthe past 3 years since having surgery. Normally my glucose level runs between 120 and 150. when It gets high it goes to about 300. Because of my frequent UTI s I hardly feel the symptoms and a Infectious disease doctor told me only to go see her because we do not want to treat with antibiotics if we dont need to. Recently, I thought I may have a UTI but the symptoms went away except the order of my urine, but lately My blood glucose rises higher than usual. in the past 3 days I have been lethargic and dizzy and sleeping all day and night only to wake to use the restroom. I have forced myself to stay awake for a few hours today, but my glucose level goes from 126 into the 500s quickly, without much change in diet (well, less food and exercise since I am sleeping so much) could this be due to infection?

Hi,

First, I think that it is the high sugars that are causing the recurrent urine infections. Since the sugars are high, infections can happen easily. Also, they are more difficult to treat.

They take a longer duration of medications. And need a more prolonged adherence to medications. Second, an infection can lead to a stress response.

This stress response leads to the release of the body's inherent steroids to be released. These steroids themselves can cause raised sugars. So it is a vicious cycle.

The main thing that breaks this cycle is the control of sugars. I hope that this is the information you sought. Feel free to contact me if you need any more information.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
