How Can Recurrent Cough Along With Chest Congestion And Cold Be Treated?

I have had a recurring productive cough, sinus and maybe chest congestion congestion (some gurgling and wheezing), runny nose and low energy since the middle of November 2016. It has briefly abated for a few days now and then but persistently returns. I have used Mucinex DM sometimes for symptoms (primarily the cough) but am not finding it very helpful. I m wondering whether I should be on an antibiotic, be tested for allergies, get a lung xray or take some other action.

Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, using OTC analgesics, acetaminophen antihistamines like cetirizine as well as work up with sputum cultures and sensitivity as well as antibiotics may be needed. Chest X-ray to rule out lower respiratory tract infection may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
