Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I have a severe sinus infection and have finished a course of antibiotics but there is no difference. I have now been prescribed prednisolone tablets 25mg x2 for 3 days. My question is that I have had cortisone before and whilst it works really well and quickly, I find that my immune system seems to take a dive and I then get sick with other things soon after. My question is...would it be better to take a slower dose over a longer period of time and taper it off or just go with the script?
For recurrent sinusitis first investigation like x-ray PNS to be done which will be hazy. In this case puncture and wash out of sinus to be done. You should not have started cortisone which only masks the symptoms there will be resistance to treatment. If there is resistance to any drug then you can go for masking and lowering the dose of the drug is to be further continued.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash,
Ophthalmologist
