How Can Restless Leg Syndrome Be Treated?

I have restless legs really bad, it s bad when i lay down, very hard time sleeping and i m up constantly in the night... now it s gotten to the point that i cannot travel very far, they are jumping really bad, mainly my right leg. It is starting to affect me at my job because it starts and I have to stand the majority of my shift. I am so frustrated bacause of no sleep and i cannot sit an relax at all!!! I have taken vitamin E which worked for a while and now I am taking restless leg pills but its still not gone. I dont fall asleep until I am so exhausted , if I could fall asleep standing up i would... I m wondering if it could be a pinched nerve or something? I had my left hip replaced and i know my right one has got to be done , he told me I have arthritas in both hips and told me just a matter of time for the right one.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

A number of lifestyle changes may be enough to ease the symptoms of restless legs syndrome. These include:
avoiding stimulants in the evening – such as caffeine, tobacco and alcohol
not smoking – read more about quitting smoking
taking regular daily exercise – but avoid exercising near bedtime
practising good sleep habits – for example, going to bed and getting up at the same time every day, not napping during the day, taking time to relax before going to bed, and avoiding caffeine close to bedtime
avoiding medicines that trigger the symptoms or make them worse – if you think medication is causing your symptoms, continue to take it and make an appointment to see your GP
During an episode of restless legs syndrome, the following measures may help relieve your symptoms:
massaging your legs
taking a hot bath in the evening
applying a hot or cold compress to your leg muscles
doing activities that distract your mind, such as reading or watching television
relaxation exercises, such as yoga or tai chi
walking and stretching

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
