Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son has been diagnosed with rehabdomyolysis he is 21 years old. He had urine result of esterase 25 in urine does he have urinary tract infection.? I ve fluids are running and we have been admitted to the hospital. Do I need to ask for isoenzymes to see if this is from a skeletal muscle or brain such as a seizure?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Rhabdomyolysis is almost always from skeletal muscles. But better to get done Total CPK (creatinine phospho kinase). If this is elevated then it is skeletal muscle injury. Along with Intravenous fluids, N acetyl cystine and injectable steroids are effective. Most worrisome complication in Rhabdomyolysis is acute renal failure. NAC is proven antioxidant to save kidney function. Steroids are best to reduce inflammation. So discuss about starting these drugs along with fluids with his doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
