I develop severe rhinitis after an endoscopy procedure. Is this due an allergic reaction to the cannula because of its length or what is it made of? How can I prevent this. The rhinitis lasts from 48-72 hours with watery eyes and voluminous liquids running out of the nose. The night after the endoscopy procedure I generally cannot sleep due to the constant sneezing. How can I prevent this from happening? Specialized cannula with shorter tip? As for no glutaraldehyde disinfection? I have to have this procedure yearly and once it developed, each time I have this problem regardless of the anesthetic. Any information would be appreciated.
It is nearly impossible to prevent rhinitis if you are prone to it due to endoscopy. But you can control the symptoms and in many cases the severity and also the occurrence if you take an antihistamine in consultation with your doctor like levocetrzine
Hope this helps
The nature of the scope has no direct bearing though the plastic sheath which is covering the scope or the reagents used may cause the rhinitis. As I mentioned before it is not easy to find out the trigger in any case
