How Can Right-sided Abdominal Pain Due To Excessive Cough Be Treated?

I have been coughing for theee days now. This has caused a stabbing like pain to appear in my lower right abdomen every time I cough and now when I move in retain positions. I have currently taken Advil cold/flu and a Advil muscle joint. It has not helped.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Coughing can cause straining of ribs and abdominal muscles. So the possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely because your pain is associated with movements and specific positions.

So apply warm water pad on affected areas. Avoid movements causing pain. Avoid sudden jerky movements of the abdomen.

You will mostly improve with all these in 2 to 3 days. If not improving then consult the doctor and get done chest x-ray to rule out right pleural effusion because effusion can also cause coughing and chest, abdomen pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
