Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m trying to figure out if I m getting the flu, so I can take the Tamiflu as soon as possible. I m NOT running a fever. I don t have body aches, nausea or a cough. I have a persistent runny nose (one side only) with burning watery eyes, sneezing and an ear that seems stuffed up. Should I take the Tamiflu or Benedryl? I have HBP and had a heart attack 10 years ago.
As per your clinical history is concerned, your problem is not due to any viral infection. So, no need of any antiviral medication, so please follow like this:
1) Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor [allergist] and to confirm you may request a [RAST] test.
2) Regarding prescription medications, you can discuss: a) [Fluticasone propionate] for nasal b) [Loratadine] but you can try [Benadryl] also and it will make you little drowsy c) [Prednisone] if severe
To prevent it in future take steps to lessen your exposure to the allergens that cause your symptoms. Take allergy medications before you're exposed to allergens, as directed by your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
