Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What medications are needed for a severe case of scabies at lest that is what they told my mother she had it is all over my father took her to the hospital er Saturday because she is so miserable this cream that gave her is not working it appears she needs an antibiotic and a steroid pack to go along with the topical cream
1. As she was diagnosed with scabies and topical cream is not giving results as desired, so consult a Dermatologist for comprehensive treatment since scabies is highly contagious and if other members in the family are infected they should be treated at a time otherwise chances of reinfection is more.
2. At first, the treatment of secondary infection is done by antibiotics. The patient should cut his nails short and her daily used articles [towel, pillow, bed sheet] should be kept separate. Antihistamines may be necessary to control itching.
3. you can use steroid plus antiseptic combination, topically on the itchy area, and make sure to go through the full course of anti scabies treatment.
PS. exclude any aggravating cause of scabies like overcrowding, poor personal hygiene, very close and intimate contact with scabies patient and remove them accordingly [if any]
