Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have never had a cholesterol issue until I went to the hospital for a very minor stroke and although it was minor the cardiologist prescribed 40Mg Simvastin, once a day forever. I recently developed a sciatic nerve issue with the typical symptom of pain in the left buttox and down the left leg. I feel the diagnosis of sciatic nerve pain is correct but could their be some influence of the statin on muscle reaction that would inhibit my recovery period. Am taking 3 advil liquid gel twice a day for inflammation reduction and am getting some relief.

How Can Sciatic Nerve Pain Be Treated?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. No, the statin does not interfere with any medicines involved in sciatica. Sciatica can be treated with the following drugs: 1. NSAIDs (advil gel you are taking) 2. Gabapentin or similar drugs 3. Lying on a medicated/orthopedic mat Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Muhammad Adnan Iqbal
