How Can Severe Anxiety And Insomnia While Suffering From PTSD Be Treated?
Friend has ptsd and was being treated by pcp with klonopin. Rx ran out and couldn't get a re-up in time.. He went to other Dr doctor to get some relief from anxiety and was prescribed vistaril. 100mg 4x/ daily. Still really anxious and irritable. Hasn't slept in days and is real manic. What can i do as a friend to help.? Can he take otc to help out? Thanks
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The treatment of insomnia, anxiety and PTSD is often accomplished with use of medications and psychotherapy. As you might be aware no two patients are similar and often complete assessment is required before starting the treatment.
The OTC medications have little role and waiting for some more time is recommended. There is possibility that with passage of time he will feel more relaxed and vistaril will show some more effects. In case no effect is observed even after lapse of two weeks you need to review with doctor again.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
