How Can Severe Anxiety Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with agoraphobia 28 years ago and was put on Imiprimine. Then in 2004 an ER doctor found that I have congenital Long QT and imipramine was not good to take. I take Lexapro 20mg now and Alprazolam 1mg TID, but lately my anxiety has increased again and I don t want to take a higher dose of alprazolam. My doctor has started me on Buspar 7.5mg BID but I m a little hesitant to take it. I started my first dose today but I need to continue to be able to work and be functional. Will this work?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Buspar is an anti-anxiety agent therefore can potentially work for you. It is difficult to predict the outcome or extent of improvement because people react differently to medication.
