Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
good afternoon. I have a question regarding medication for an anxiety disorder. If a person has been convicted of a very violent crime (has completed sentence and is no longer incarcerated) and is now on medication for handling anxiety (has been for a while--I m not knowledgeable as to how long...) and is now facing a divorce, is this something I should be concerned with in relation to dealing with this person. This person is someone in my workplace and tends to be very egotistical about their abilities and feels their position is superior to mine.
For choosing a medicine to a patient with anxiety disorder, a number of factors are to be considered. Age, surroundings, position, history and family aspects of the patient. You had given much of the information but a little more is required. This is case the situation of the patient is a little bit complicated. So more care should be taken while choosing the medicine. Other personal factors should also be considered. Medications are avoided in severe anxiety because there are many complications (personality changes) for psychological drugs. Drugs like Xanar and Buspar can be used. But be careful, medication alone is not a sufficient treatment for severe anxiety. Counselling is required.
Take Care!
