How Can Severe Back Pain Be Treated While On BP Medication?

Hello. I am having a lot of back pain - bulging disc impinging on nerves. I have an old prescription (not expired) for hydrocodone acetaminophine that I want to take. Seeing my doctor later in the week. I m also taking Valsartan for high blood pressure. And was given a precription for Ambien (half tab) for sleep. I m assuming I can take the pain meds tonight. Please advise. thank you!

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I carefully read your questions and understand your concern.
If you are going to have an appointment with your doctor soon than what you need meanwhile is to help with pain.
1. I would say that you can take the hydrocodone acetaminophene tablets up to 3-4 times a day. make sure you do not use Tylenol tablets at the same time as they are acetaminophen and might cause overdose.
2. Using local compresses might help. Most patients find release with warm compresses on the back and a few with cold compresses. I would suggest you try and which helps.
3. ibuprofen is another tablet that you can use 3 times a day after food for a few days. I would not use it for a long time as it might effect the blood pressure if used for a long time.
4. the sleeping pill might help you with the sleep as back pain might effect your sleep so I would recommend you to use it before bed.
5. keep yourself active with daily activities, bed rest is not recommended for back pain. It might make pain to go on for longer periods
6. make sure you see your doctor soon.

Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
