How Can Severe Burning Sensation In The Ears Be Treated?

Hi.. My left ear was blocked due to wax and had some inflammation as well so I went to GP and he prescribed me otodex ear drops to be taken thrice a day for 4 days and an ear drops for wax removal once a day at night.. However after the first 2-3 dozes at the end of first day, my ear is on fire maybe due to the swelling. I don t have any other symptoms but I can t sleep due to the burning sensation.. Should I stop the medication or should I continue and take Panadol or any other medication to help with the pain? I used ibuprofen but it didn t help.

Hello,

I would recommend that you stop using the drops as it sounds like you are having a reaction to them and continuing to use them may make it worse. You can take Panadol for the pain, along with continuing to use Ibuprofen along with it and hopefully that will control the pain. If it persists I would go back to your doctor to have him take a look inside the ear to make sure there is not an infection or serious inflammation in the ear, in which case you may need steroid or antibiotic drops.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
