How Can Severe Depression And Anxiety Be Treated?

Went through a divorce after 32 years of marriage; finalized three weeks ago. 59 year old attorney three adult children one last year of college. Divorce started by wife after emotional break down 4/17/2015 due largely to financial issues for several years preceding break down. Diagnosed with major depression and anxiety. Seeing psychiatrist who has me on klonopin 1mg 3 times day since 4/17/15. Want off this stuff and want to get ex out of my mind; I didn t want the divorce, but it is what it is. Acceptance has been hard. Just over to marital home yesterday for Thanksgiving with kids ex and my sister. Regrettably, the contact stirs the emotions. I know just through a lot at you. Cannot rely on damn Benzos to get rid of the hurt and anxiety within. Cold turkey I know is a risk. But, need to recover from within and move on. Neurotin or something may be a substitute during what I expect to be hellish withdrawal. I am a sole practicing attorney and do not have the luxury to detox in some facility. Thanks. I guess not really specific questions as much as reaching out.

Hello,

You are recommended to get properly diagnosed to evaluate the type & degree of depression. Get CBC, lab tests, Psychiatric evaluation, DSM-5 done. Your treatment will depend upon the severity of illness detected.

You may require SSRI's, SNRI's, MAOI's, antidepressants, etc. Stay away from addictions if any, lead a healthy lifestyle.

Think of what is more soothing to get over your negative emotions. Spend time with children, friends, relative or some excursion to let your mind get over the stress.

Taking anti-depressant tablets will not help totally. If engaging yourself more in your profession can de-stress try spending more time there. Avoid anxiety & stress, do regular exercises, take adequate sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
