How Can Severe Earache Be Treated?

My 12 year old daughter had her tubes replaced in her ears on jan 11th, this is her 9th set of tubes but the first time her ent has chosen to go with the titanium tubes. Well she is still having a lot of pain in her left ear and has never experienced this amount of pain for more then 48 hours after all her previous ear surgeries. Is this normal with this type of tubes or could something be wrong. Also, because of the ear pain i have continued with her ear drops past the seven days prescribed could this be the issue?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Unfortunately 15% to 26% of the patients with tubes get infection. But you don't complain of any foul discharge or drainage. Since she is experiencing pain there seems to be inflammation or swelling within the ear, the incision site could be infected. Such symptoms need immediate medical attention for there might be tearing or scaring in the eardrum. Please visit ER at the earliest, get her re-examined so that she gets treated accordingly and gets relieved of her discomfort.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
