Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Severe Edema From The Hips To The Feet Be Treated?
I am a Z49 year old woman who is now experiencing severe edema from my hips to my feet. I am on my feet all day and the water pills my doctor gave me don t work very effectively, I also am experiencing belly bloat (painful and makes me look pregnant, which is impossible as I haven t had sex in over a year and my partner and I use condoms and he had a vasectomy many years ago. I can t take time off from my new job, so what do I do? Oh, my doctor also gave me compression socks which only go to my knee, today was the first time using them and they just made matters worse.
Oedema of hips and legs in this age may be due to heart failure or anaemia or renal or liver cell failure etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.
Please check for cardiac and renal function tests. Use tablet.frusemide at daytime if you're not a hypotension patient.
Limb elevation, use diuretics. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Penchila Prasad Kandikattu , Internal Medicine Specialist
