How Can Severe Eye Allergies Be Treated?

Thank you. My husband has a terrible eye problem. It is red and itches and I am so afraid something is terribly wrong. He is 89 years old and has always had energy and seems more like 65 or 70. He is losing energy and seems to want to sleep all of the time. It has been going on for months - has seen his Dr. - given external eye meds and nothing helps. Could he have gotten an eye infection from my vaginal problem. He is a touchy-feely guy. HELP. Love this man - married 69 years. Thank you.

This possibly could be that your husband is allergic to the medicine/s advised to be put in eyes and hence infection and symptoms have not gone completely. You did not say whether your husband is known diabatic.
I suggest you to stop all drugs being put in the eyes and get swab testing of eye secretions of culture and sensitivity and his blood glucose at different points of time and glycated Hb now and wash eyes with saline for 2-3 days. Once reports are ready see the Eye specialist again with report for review.
With suitable medicines, coexist allergy and difficult infection from any source are eminently treatable .Please get back with result noted by you
