How Can Severe Headaches Be Treated?

I am 65 and have been in good health. No prescription medications. Overweight. 3 days ago started with a headache that is unresponsive to Advil or Tylenol. Head hurts more when bending over or upon standing from seated position. Feel warm but no fever. Took blood pressure abd it was quite high 163/82. In August went to Gyn for routine exam and BP was 118/72. Please advise.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Headache is a common complaint in patients that have high blood pressure.
As you have mentioned above, your blood pressure values are high, so these might be related.
I suggest you to monitor your blood pressure, by measuring it twice daily for 10 days, because this might be the beggining of arterial hypertension and it needs to be treated.
There are many treatments and combinations for hypertension, but I suggest you to start taking Enalapril 20 mg (2 x 1/2 tab daily ).
You should also consult a cardiologist and make a complete blood check because hypertension might also be accompained with high blood cholesterol and triglycerides.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
