Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a sigmoid colectomy 3 weeks ago. Still in a tremendous amount of pain on left side - very localized- like an inflammation. Very debilitating. Opioids not helping. Advil does provide some relief but I am taking 3 every 5 hours just to function. There is also a very hard area where the pain is. I think it might be adhesions/scar tissue. Does it ever stop hurting or doi need an additional surgery to get it removed?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per my long term clinical experience, the severe pain after a colectomy at 3 weeks period, does not sound normal.
I strongly recommend to consult your surgeon immediately and get an Ultrasound of the abdomen & pelvis done for further management guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
