How Can Severe Pain Around A Hernia Repair Surgical Incision Be Treated?

12 days after a laparoscopic incisional hernia repair with mesh I still have considerable pain, especially in two specific points. I take max paracetamol and ibuprofen each day and try avoiding to lift. Sitting is the best position, but of course I often take 5-10-15 minutes walks round the neighbourhood, but especially getting up from a chair and starting to walk is quite painful. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain is normal for a few days.
You can continue to treat it with painkillers like you re doing now.
If the pain continue in time a physical examination is needed to confirm the cause of the pain.
It can be a reaction to the mesh itself or nerve disturbance which needs treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
