How Can Severe Pain Due To Disc Herniation Be Treated?
I have L5/S1 herniation (right sude) causing compression on the sciatic nerve all the way down right leg. I have also torn the L4 disc on thr right side which is leaking. I have had mri scan and spent a week in hospital whilst they got pain under control. Whilst there had a spinal block to allow me to walk as was crawling round on hands and knees. Have had previous operations l4 23 years ago and L5/S1 3 years ago. On massive doses of meds daily and can only walk with crutches but have now wet the bed on 2 occasions over the last 2 weeks. Seeing neurosurgeon on Wednesday but not sure if I should see someone more urgently.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since you have had previous surgeries on the L4/L5 and L5/S1, area, possibly minimal access disc removal; and still having marked pain needing large doses of pain medications and nerve block to relieve pain. The nest step for relief of this discomfort d fusion surgery of L4/5/S1. Your Neurosurgeon would explain the details of surgery and the expected results. Please do consult the doctor.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
