How Can Severe Pain In The Ankles And Heel Be Treated?

My husband is in great pain right now. He has taken the gout medication given to him, but it is not helping, He is in the third day of extreme pain in the heel, arch, and ankle area. It is not swollen much. He has had gout flares before but this one is severe. Is there something I can do for him at home?

ice. take something from the deep freezer and fixate it with bandages over the affected areas. that,and high dosage nsails (1,2g of ibuprofen for instance). he can also try corticos,ideally parentheral,but if not possible through mouth. with gastroprotectors,of course.
