Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom has had severe back pain for several weeks. They are thinking she may have an inflamed disk. She gets sick on pain pills and steroids. Currently she is taking Tylenol ES pretty much around the clock. Her family doctor wants her to use a Butrans patch but she does not want to take a narcotic. What would you recommend?
The symptoms are more likely suggestive of neurological causes like sciatica. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Diclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persists better to consult an orthopedician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
