How Can Severe Pain In The Chest After An Injury Be Treated?
I had s fall from my horse on Saturday, landed on the right half of my back and shoulder. My back doesn t hurt but its super painful on the right side of my chest to breathe deep or even to get up and down. Its even more painful to lay on my back. I don t really want to go to dr at this point but was wondering your thoughts. I don t like taking pain meds or muscle relaxers because they make me feel like a zombie, other than that what else can they do.
Hello, It sounds like you may have fractured a rib. If this is the case, there is not much that doctors can do for it except wait for it to heal. If you should become short of breath, then the rib may have punctured a lung and that is an emergency so get to the hospital, by ambulance immediately. Other possibilities include tears in the ligaments or tendons around the shoulder and back. If the pain is or becomes severe then see a doctor to rule out fracture of the shoulder. In cases like this, the doctors cannot do much except make sure that nothing serious has happened. For example, if you have a fracture in the shoulder area then that would need orthopedic treatment. They can also advise you about what activities may be okay and which to avoid, depending upon the diagnosis. Regards, Dr. Robinson
