My mom is 92, is not a candidate for hip replacement surgery. She is bone on bone in her right hip. She has pain in her hip as well as in her right knee. Is there anything that can be done? injection into her hip? she doesn t want to be on strong pain killers as they would make her mentally muddled. Her ball joint is completely worn away. She takes Tramadol at bedtime, but just Tylenol during the day. What do you suggest? Email: YYYY@YYYY
With no cartilage in between the joints, she has osteoarthritis which can be very painful depending on the extent of the changes seen.
The opioid family of medication can cause confusion and drowsiness in some persons. This includes tramadol, codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine
There are some medications that should not cause these side effects such as cataflam, naproxen or ibuprofen. These medications, however, can irritate the stomach so would need to be used with meals. Celebrex and arcoxia are in the similar family but are not suppose to affect the stomach, so these are alternatives, but .
I hope this helps
