How Can Severe Pain In The Joints And Muscles Be Treated?

I cannot take statins because I get severe muscle and joint pain. Additionally statins gave me only an insignificant response at lowering my cholesterol LDLs. So I quit taking statins five months ago; within one week my pain vanished. I ve been taking self injections of alirocumab (praulent), 150 mg/ml, for four months. My LDL levels plummeted by nearly 50% within two months. However I have been getting increasing muscle pain in my arms, hands and feet for the past two months. I get a negative test response for RA. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Alirocumab has higher rates of myalgia as compared to statin. Dose should be adjusted to achieve a target level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol level of 70 mg per deciliter (1.8 mmol per liter).

Reported multi-centred trial dosage - alirocumab subcutaneously at a dose of 75 mg every 2 weeks.

Check your serum CK (creatine kinase) level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
