How Can Severe Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I had hyaluronic acid injected into my knee on Feb. 6. It seemed to have helped for about 2 weeks , but now the pain is about the same as before my injection. My dr. made an appointment for me to see her on March 13. Do you think it would be advisable to repeat the injection?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

This type of injection only gives temporary benefits from pain of Osteoarthritis due to any reason. My advice is to find out reason of arthritis, it is age related degeneration or due to rheumatic infection.

Besides, if knee joint damage is not severe enough that prevents daily routine activity, only physiotherapy and oral pain treatments are advisable. If you are not able to walk even few steps without pain and gait of your walking is altered, it is advisable to go for knee replacement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
