How Can Severe Pain In The Left Calf Be Treated?

I was walking today and while walking down steps, I felt a pop in my left calf muscle. Since then it s been hard to walk on it. I am able to walk. It is painful to walk on it. I have it elevated, used ice and took some Advil. How do I know if I should go to the dr or just try to rest it? While elevated there is zero pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to HCM
I appreciate your concern. you have mostly grade 3 calf muscle strain
See your doctors if :
- redness, warmth or tenderness or you have a fever greater than100F(37.8C)
- A leg that is swollen, pale or unusually cool
-Calf pain, particularly after prolonged sitting
- Swelling in both legs along with breathing problems

*Ifyou dont have any of the above symptome you need:
- rest more than 4 weeks
- Avoid any activities that cause pain and do not stretch the muscle
-Ice should be applied to calf muscle as you doing
-Wearing a compression bandage
-calf elevated above the level of the heart, the knee is supported in this position to prevent knee pain.
-after pain improved, start exercise like calf stretching exercises but if pain return again stop it immediately
Best Regards
