How Can Severe Pain In The Neck Be Treated?

I tried patches and Advil and nothing worked. Driving was difficult. After a week of trying to heal myself and finding that I couldn t get in to see my doctor, I finally went to the ER. Dr did act scan and said nothing was broken and put me on predesone. In two days I had no pain. And felt great. When I finished pills the pain came back and I m now icing my neck. Don t know what else to do

Hi,

Neck pain is quite a common problem. This is not serious and mostly caused by bad postures. Yes, the pain may be there for sometime even for a few weeks. The best thing that helps is to control pain with heat pads and some OTC painkiller like paracetamol and physiotherapy.

However, correct posture (keeping the neck straight), and physiotherapy has got a huge role. So, personally I would advise you should not worry (as CT is normal) but see a physiotherapist. If pain gets very severe you get numbness in hands, then you should consult your doctor as may need MRI but that is rare.

Hope I have answered your query.
