How Can Severe Pain In The Rib Cage Be Treated?

Hi, I had a compression fracture in my T12. It was crumbled so I had to have the cement procedure. I still have pain, but a week ago I had agonizing pain. Not as bad as before (I also had fractured ribs), but bad enough I was stuck in my chair. It s been 6 days and I m feeling better. If it was a fracture, it wouldn t heal this fast or on its own, correct? I am on a high does of Prednisone but am taking VD and Calcium.

Hi and welcome to ASK A Doctor service.
I have read your question and here is my advice.

Yes you are right , if this was a fracture then the pain would have been very much severe , and would have increased. And they never get healed this quickly. So it looks to me as this was a muscular pain or pain from your back nerves that sometimes get trapped in the spine .If you are using high dose steroids , in would personally abuse you must take Bisphosphonates besides calcium and vitamin D for bone protection as prolonged use of steroids make the bones very fragile which can be prevented with bisphosphonate.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
