Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I hit my shin L leg on a bed frame. Skin broke but no bleeding. It is just above my ankle. I must have hit a nerve, very painful, skin feels tight, no bruising but moving my ankle feels tight. Elevated foot for 3 days now, put on backtracking. No red line or skin discolored. I am 62 yrs with history of DVT Go to ER tomorrow???
hi sir/mam,even trivial trauma can cause fractures, dislocations when osteoporosis sets in with age.for my patients,I usually advise to go for an x-ray.coming to the question of red line and discolouration of skin at that site, for ischemia of tissues, poor blood supply or any tight constriction preventing blood circulation are necessary.but there are instances where a small abrasion of leg lead to cellulitis.factors that cause rapid progress to cellulitis are as follows : 1)uncontrolled diabetes mellitus 2)peripheral vascular diseases 3)morbid obesity 4)venous thrombosis 5)coagulopathies etc
if any of the above mentioned condition prevails in your case, you need to go for a surgeon consultation and a Doppler of leg if he/she feels necessary after examination.hope my answer clears your doubts.wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year 2018.any further clarifications from my side, please let me know.it would be my pleasure to assist you.thank you.take care.bye.
