How Can Severe Pain In The Shoulders Be Treated?

Hello. I have bilateral shoulder pain so much so that I can t sleep on my sides anymore. This makes sleeping difficult. I also have tingling down my upper arms. This has been going on for about a year and getting worse. My right hip joint has also become too sore to lay or rest on. I have gone to the doctor for the right shoulder which was the first place of pain. I have had x-rays and physical therapy on the right shoulder. I should probably go back to the doctor because it didn t help. I am wondering if I will have to have an MRI on all 3 areas or if I could be tested for something systemic that might be going on. Also, do you think arthritis could get that bad that quickly?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a bulging disc in the cervical vertebral column.

For this reason, I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a physical exam and a cervical spine MRI study. A lumbar MRI may be needed too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
