How Can Severe Pain In The Thighs And Hip Joints Be Treated?

I overexerted my leg muscles and now a suffering excruciating pain in the front of my thigh, trending from my hip joint diagonally to the inside of my knee cap. I can sit down without pain but standing and walking causes discomfort, and laying on my stomach is extremely painful. Hot soaking baths help temporarily. Any explanations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Jeff

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal to develop muscle soreness and pain when a person engages in activity more than used to. It is usually caused due to the build-up of lactic acid in the muscles. I would advise you to do light stretching exercises. You can take an over the counter pain killer like Advil to relieve the pain. A muscle relaxant like cyclobenzaprine or chlorzoxazone can be taken. Drink plenty of fluids. If you are not relieved in a day or two, get yourself checked by a physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
