How Can Severe Pain While On A Suprapubic Catheter Be Treated?
I m having my first suprapubic catheter change at the hospital today. I m in constant pain with it and when I go toilet for a number 2 the pain is so great I feel faint.I m so scared they might keep me in as I m taking morphine at home and tramadol to ease the pain,or do I not say anything to avoid being in hospital and off work with no pay which we really cannot afford to do. This is a question from a friend
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The suprapubic catheter is used is certain specif situations and it may be chosed because it is more comfortable than the normal urethral cateter and less likely to give you an infection than indwelling urethral catheters.
In your case i suggest to take regulary the morfine or tramadol ,exactly as prescribed by your doctor and if this therapy do not help,my advice is to discuss with your doctor to find a definitive and more comfortable solution for your urology problem.
Hope this is helpful. Take care
