Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 68 year old female and i have severe pudendal nerve pain. My urologist had me go to physical therapy for pelvic pain, and it helped veryvlittle. I take 800 mg og gabapentin 3 times a day and it really doesn t help. I had a shot into the nerve, but that didn t help. I am getting pretty desparate, and don t know what i should do next. What should be my next step. I have looked into ablation and freezing, and would like to find the best treatment which could provide some relief.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You may be suffering from pudendal neuralgia. It happens when a major nerve in the lower body is damaged or irritated, and it can make it hard to use the bathroom, have sex, or sit down. The pain comes and goes. Most people with pudendal neuralgia get treatment with a combination of physical therapy, lifestyle changes, and medicines. Sit up straight or stand more often to help with nerve pain. Don’t do squats or cycle. Go for physical therapy.Muscle relaxants may help relieve symptoms of pudendal neuralgia. If symptoms not improved please consult your neurophysician he will examine and do MRI spine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
