How Can Severe Sun Burn On The Skin Be Treated?

Hi, After spending a few hours in the sun 2 weeks ago, I got bad patchy burn rashes on my hands, right thigh and left leg. One rash on my hand blistered and was red raw, so a walk-in clinic gave me Mupirocin which has helped. The rash seemed to spread down my thumbs over a few days, and have now mostly turned brown like a dark tan. Weird brown patches discoloration is developing between the nail and first joint in most fingers. On the same day I was burnt, I developed pretty horrendous blisters on my lips and a weird blistered rash on one side of my mouth which made me look like the movie character The Joker. This has since gone away with a cortisone cream and cold sore cream and pills. Should I be worried about my hands? It looks a little unsightly and a little scared to go back in the sun. I spent around 40 mins on the beach yesterday morning. I got very burnt on my shoulders but no other reactions this time so far than goodness, as I ve been too scared to go back out into the sun for fear of this happening again.

Hi,

As per your query you have sunburn on the skin which can lead to photodermatitis.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you massage your affected area daily with a moisturizer cream, this will help collagen circulation to the site of burn. You should apply a sunscreen when you are going out. Use a sunscreen, eat plenty of vitamin c and zinc enriched food like citrus fruits, nuts, broccoli. Also, use cold compresses if there are itching and irritation. Consult a dermatologist if symptoms persist and start treatment after a complete examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
