Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a very large filling approx 3wks ago and the dentist warned me after the injection wears off I will be in pain.Unfortunately, no matter whether I eat hot/ cold food and drink hot/ cold drinks, I still get toothache. What strong pain relief will work please?I forgot to mention that my gum is swollen and inflamed
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. As per your complain if you have got a large filling done and after that if the gum is swollen and also there is severe pain then it is clear indication of infection and it seems that the tooth has to be re-treated. There is a possibility that there is pus formation below the Root tips of the tooth leading to dental abscess formation which is causing swelling.
I would therefore suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an x ray of the tooth has to be done. In case of deep infection Root Canal Treatment will be done followed by a course of antibiotics and painkillers for permanent relief. Once the tooth becomes completely painless then capping of the tooth can be done to increase its strength.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
