Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. Im taking citalopram, which was diagnosed for depression & anxiety. Ive been on 10mgs for 5 days. The side effects im getting are a bit foggy head, my anxiety has got worse, im getting anxious about everything. Im not sleeping either. I go to bed around 11 am awake around 2.30 & cant go back to sleep. I put a sleeping video on with headphones, when I go back to sleep I jump & wake myself back up. My question is. Is this normal side effects & if I take the tablet in the morning can I take nytol in the evening to help me sleep even if every other night.
Citalopram and other such drugs have these symptoms as common side effects. The foggy head and difficulty sleeping are commonly experienced by patients all over the world.
They usually smoothen out over a week or two, as the drug concentration in the blood stabilizes.
You could also consider therapy with a psychologist, temporarily to learn the skills required to deal with your anxiety. Hence, in my opinion, take a few more days to evaluate if you are doing better, and these unpleasant symptoms subside.
While there is no problem with taking a med to sleep better, do not make a habit of it and make sure your clinician is made aware of the same.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
