Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 46 years old and have been on Sertraline for 10 years or so and have started yawning all the time. My doctor said the yawning can be a side effect of Sertraline so stopped it and put me on Wellbutrin, 100 mg for a week, then to take 100 mg in the AM and another 100 mg at noon. I feel horrible. I just don t feel right, like my head is swimming, I can t sleep, emotional, etc. Should I have tapered off the Zoloft instead of stopping abruptly and starting Wellbutrin?
In my opinion, it is not the absence of tapering off that has caused these side effects.
The Zoloft would stay in your system for a couple of days even after you stopped taking it. The side effects are probably from the new medication.
I advise you to continue with the new meds for a week and see if the symptoms do not decrease. This is a common problem individual’s face while trying to switch medications.
There are other options available to minimise your effects as your clinician advises you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
