How Can Sinusitis Along With A Viral Infection Be Treated?

I was diagnosed with a viral infection. The doctor, a Wellstar Urgent Care doctor, did not prescribe anything even though I asked for an antibiotic. I have had enough sinus infections to know that I needed an antibiotic to clear it up but he would not prescribe one. I felt worse the next day so I went to another doctor. He immediately diagnosed me with a sinus infection and indeed prescribed an antibiotic. How could the first doctor miss that, and be so adamant about not prescribing an antibiotic?

Hello,

A sinus infection can occur secondary to cold. As cold is a viral infection and antibiotics does not treat viral infection. Therefore antibiotics have not been prescribed to you. However there can be superseded bacterial infection, so the other doctor prescribed you antibiotics. You should continue taking antibiotics and along with it. You can also take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and along with it do saline nasal irrigation. Do steam inhalation and use a decongestant nasal spray like Otrivin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
