Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I quit smoking 11 days ago, got what feels like a bad sinus infection. Post natal drip all clear phlegm but it has brown specks in it, for the most part it’s clear maybe a few specks. But my saliva is foamy so it comes out every now and again. I have not had any yellow or green phlegm just the clear spit mixed with a little clear phlegm with my spit. I have no fever- my lymph nodes are not swollen and my throat doesn’t hurt. However my mouth feel dry and the post natal drip is clearing up a lot.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
My thoughts and suggestions are as below. It is a great news that you have stopped smoking for the last 11 days. Please continue this. One a person stops smoking, the environment of the mucus passages of nose, sinuses, pral and respiratory passages starts changing to smokefree air and thus you are getting all the changes of more mucus production and all as you have posted. So nothing to worry if there is no fever, colored mucus and so on. Take plain water steam inhalation for further loosening of the phlegm. Take multivitamins and mineral supplements for good healing. Never take tobacco in any forms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
