How Can Sinusitis In A Child Be Treated?

My 3 year old has been on 3 doses of antibiotics for a sinus infection. 1st amoxicillin then 2 other times with augmentin. He still has a nose full of thick yellow/green mucus. Tried allergy medicine as well but still the same. Should I see if doctor will do a steroid?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your child definitely needs consultation of a doctor, an ENT specialist for the treatment. Over the counter medicines should not be tried.Treatment consists of anti allergic and decongestant medicine, nasal decongestant drops along with suitable antibiotic if needed, (for sufficiently long period) under a child specialist/ ENT doctor's supervision.

To avoid exposure to cold/ avoid bath and use sponging with hot water to clean the baby/warm and simple food and water to be fed/ avoid exposure to dust, fume, any possible allergen ( food, cosmetics, clothes, fur toys). Thus proper medication and home care would definitely help the baby out of the problem.

Thanks,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
