I have been told that I have skin cancer- although it has not been confirmed yet. The site of the cancer is positive for staph, my sed rates are elevated but my wbc is just outside of normal. If I do have skin cancer with this staph why arent my wcb higher
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Usually if the general physician suspects for skin cancer he refers the patient to a dermatologist who performs a skin examiantion with dermatoscopy, for further evaluation, he can also perform a biopsy for a final diagnosis. After confirming skin cancer diagnosis, further examinations might be done for staging (cancer spreading). White blood cells might be slightly high or normall when you have a staphylococcal infection, so I don't expect them to be higher.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
