Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Two weeks ago, my granddaughter (studying in NZ) stepped on broken Chestnut shells. Cuts & splinters deep. Went to University Dr. He left many splinters in. Bad reaction to shot he gave her... today s photo shows the skin around cuts & splinters RED... do you advise her to soak her foot in something?
The redness of the skin is likely due to inflammation. Presence of underlying infection should also be considered. -Try soaking feet for 10 minutes in warm water bath containing baking soda and vinegar, twice daily. -Apply Mupirocin ointment and gauze dressing twice daily to affected area -Avoid tight-fitting shoes. Use a slipper if possible. -Follow up with her primary provider to confirm/rule out infection and discuss the need for antibiotics.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
